Why the DogBone Adjustable Leader Works

The unique setup allows you to make the proper correction when needed with crisp on/off pressure that your dog can clearly feel and understand. When the dog is in the right position, pressure is off. When the dog forges ahead, lags behind, or gets out of heel position the pressure comes on and then releases as soon as they return to heel. How to Use the Adjustable Leader for Heel Training

• Step 1 – Fit the Leader Correctly: Use the sliding collar tab to adjust the collar portion so it sits high on the dog’s neck, snug but not tight, and connect the leash portion as shown in the instructional video.
• Step 2 – Start in Low-Distraction Areas: Begin heel work in your yard, driveway, or quiet space so your dog can focus on you.
• Step 3 – Use Light, Timely Pressure: When your dog forges ahead, drifts out, or lags, apply a quick, upward and back pressure, then immediately release when they return to position.
• Step 4 – Praise: Just as important as the correction, praise the dog when he/she is in the right position. The dog needs to understand what's wrong, and equally important, what's right!
• Step 5 – Build Toward Off-Lead Heel: As your dog becomes consistent, use shorter sessions, more environments, and eventually begin to transition off lead. Being able to detach the lead from the collar without the dog even knowing, but still feeling the weight of the collar, is how you transition to off-lead heel: the ultimate goal.
