A Retriever Training Must: They Key To Unlocking the Retrieve | Ep: #20
In this episode, we are answering questions on retriever training. We start out by discussing takeaways from this year’s workshops, and common themes among the handlers and dogs that attended. One of these theme that was very evident was the need for hold conditioning.
Many dogs did not have the finished retrieve that we are looking to get in our retriever training. Chomping on the bumper, dropping short, victory laps, unwillingness to bring bumpers to hand, and “switching” (dropping one bumper mid retrieve to pick up another) are all symptoms of a dog that is in need of hold conditioning. Hold conditioning fixes all these problems, and as we like to say, “is the key to unlocking the retrieve.” We have a ton of information and content on how, when, and where to complete hold conditioning with your own dog such as the DogBoneHunter YouTube page, our Facebook, and these podcasts!
As always, thanks for tuning in and keep the questions and feedback coming.
Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to the Turnpike Troubadours for allowing us to use a snippet from one of our all-time favorite songs The Bird Hunter. Make sure to check out their music, they are a favorite of ours.
